After reading Alicia (Alice), I was so sad the counterparts, Khadra and Camille were only available in French (I’m a Spanish teacher). So what else to do but read them in French! And I was NOT sorry!!
Khadra is a touching story. From her brother and her best friend to a true crisis of people living in what clearly should have been a condemned building, the drama is real! I was so worried about dear Mr. Kacem! I just wish his situation was purely fiction - at least the sad part. I enjoyed learning about Ramadan traditions and foods. It was truly a beautiful time of celebration with family where all were welcome.
Cécile Lainé tells engaging stories that are easy to understand- even for me! I highly recommend this book!!
Khadra is one of the characters from Cécile Lainé's first novel, Alice, although you do not have to read one to enjoy the other. This book offers a different perspective into life in Marseille and the story is heartwarming.
