Orión, by Margarita Pérez García
Orión is a Rottweiler. He is loved by his family but misunderstood by many as being violent and aggressive. A massive storm hits and breaks the dam at the top of the village. The town is destroyed and a river of mud flows freely and violently, separating people from safety and their loved ones. Can Orión help bring them to safety? Inspired by true events, when a dam broke the state of Vargas, Venezuela, Orión is a story of hope, friendship, and survival against all odds. With fewer than 125 unique words and beautiful color art, this book is a highly engaging reader for any level one student.

Me encanta Orión, recibí el libro ayer y lo leí de un tiron. Una historia interesante y bien escrita. Creo que a mis estudiantes les encantará.
I love this book so much. It's based on a true story and it's just one of the best stories ever. It leaves you rooting for the discriminated against underdog the whole way.
Based on a true story of a canine hero, her litter of puppies, a young neighbor girl and a devastating natural disaster, this book has much to offer the reader: tension, excitement, helplessness and finally...hope. Dog lovers will especially enjoy this novel, but you don't need to be a dog nut (like me) to enjoy this gripping true story.
