I love it when I can read authentic stories written from the inside of the culture. This is the case with Xolo, a story inspired by a Mexican legend and written by a Mexican author. I loved the simplicity of the language, the plot and the strong cultural component. I know my students will enjoy this story as well.

You won't see it coming....

I just read Xolo. It is intentionally written to be easy enough for first semester. It's amazing how she was able to use cognates and very simple language to convey a story that includes an Aztec language, foreshadowing, some conspiratorial manipulation, bullying and a shocking, surprising, absolutely unforseeable.... event. I loved it.

The best part is that Marta reads the audio book. Each chapter has a separate QR code.

Xolos are the coolest!

Having fantasized about owning a Xolo (dog) for many years, I was thrilled to find a fiction reader with some info about them! This book is not just a wonderful story of a young girl and her family, but about the Xolo dog and its importance in Mexican culture. This is a wonderful reader that will appeal to many students of all ages. Highly recommended for your FVR library or for a class reader.
