This CI novel is intended as a first read for learners of Spanish. It is composed of simple high-frequency vocabulary and reinforces (or introduces) basic conversational phrases. While written as a compelling novel with one protagonist, it is a compilation of true stories told by immigrants from Mexico to the U.S. It contains 4362 total words and 119 unique words (not including easily recognizable cognates but including dissimilar forms of the same word) and is told in the present tense. Every word is defined in the glossary at the end and less common words are footnoted.
